Daniel Widrig

Daniel Widrig founded his studio in London in 2009. After graduating from the Architectural Association Daniel worked for several years with Zaha Hadid where he was significantly involved in designing some of Hadid’s most iconic buildings and products.

A Daniel Widrig’s studio now works in a broad range of fields including sculpture, fashion, furniture design and architecture. Embracing digital systems since its early days, the studio holds a unique position in the field and is widely considered to be in the vanguard of digital art and design.

A Daniel has received international critical acclaim and has been published and exhibited internationally. He received a number of prestigious awards including the Swiss Arts Award, Feidad Merit Award and the Rome Prize. Prior to founding his studio Daniel was Artist in Residence at the German Academy Villa Massimo in Rome. Amongst others his work has been shown at Gropius Bau Berlin, Centre Pompidou Paris and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Peeler has been conceived to overcome the limits of additive manufacturing, thus far serving small niche markets. Winking at mass production, it is 3D printed in single 7mm thick shells of PLA by an industrial robot in just a few hours, consuming a small amount of machine time with minimum waste of material.
The chair has been designed to satisfy both the ergonomic constraints of the human body, as well as the ergonomics of the robotic arm that prints it. Consisting of three undulating skinlike surfaces, Peeler emerges out of a convergence
of human and machine requirements.
